There is a Fire Danger Rating in each state and territory in Australia. It has been formed to help keep you, your family and your home in the bush safe. It warns of the level of bush fire threat on any given day, based on the forecast weather conditions. The Fire Danger Rating is an early indicator of the potential danger, should a bush fire start. It is up to you to be prepared when under threat of a bush fire. The Rural Fire Service Department in your state or territory is able to give you assistance on how to best prepare in the case of a fire.
Now is the perfect time to get ready before summer.
You will need to make many decisions like:
  • Will I stay and defend my home in the case of a bush fire or will I evacuate at the earliest possible convenience?
  • Will I need to purchase a water pump?
  • Do I know who to contact in case of an emergency?
  • Does the school have an evacuation plan?
  • Does the family have protective clothing?
  • Is there a water supply in case of a black-out?
